About me

Ahmed works in the general realm of underwater technologies. His research interests cover areas as diverse as robust acoustic communication, applied statistics, signal processing, learning methods, estimation & detection theory, error control coding, numerical methods, etc.

From 2010 to 2019, Ahmed was associated with the National University of Singapore (NUS), initially as a doctoral candidate and later on as a Research Lead. In June 2014, he completed his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NUS. From there on out, Ahmed served as a Research Fellow at the Acoustic Research Laboratory of NUS, eventually leaving in 2019 as a Research Lead.

Prior to this, Ahmed received his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan, in 2006 and 2009, respectively. After graduating with his Bachelor’s degree, Ahmed joined Motorola Inc. (Pakistan) as an RF Engineer. Later on, with the completion of his Masters, he took up a lecturer position at the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad campus, Pakistan.

Ahmed has served as a reviewer for several technical journals, including the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Communication Letters, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Letters on Signal Processing, IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, Signal Processing, Digital Signal Processing, Ad Hoc Networks, IET Communications, IET Electronics Letters, Ocean Engineering, MDPI Sensors. In 2017, Ahmed was added to the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society’s Excellence in Review list. He was the Technical Program Chair for the International Conference on Underwater Networks and Systems 2016 (WUWNet’16), Outreach Chair for the IEEE Singapore AUV Challenge 2018 (SAUVC’18), and the Chairperson for SAUVC’19. He is currently the Student Poster Chair for IEEE/MTS OCEANS 2020 (Singapore).

When not working, Ahmed is an avid foodie and enjoys spending time with his family. He loves watching movies and is an avid history buff. He is passionate about travelling, loves thinking about going to the gym, gazes at the stars and eventually wants to end up touring outer space.
